I had seen this item on plenty of bucket lists, so thought I would add it in too. In 2010, I was able to experience the luxury of flying first class. The catch is though, while I did fly first class, I didn’t pay first class prices (good connections). Not that my method of acquiring impacted the experience in any way. Wow. Wish I did have the money to do it again. Bit of a tease really. I was able to fly first class from Sydney to London and back – what a dream!
“Would you like a champagne Miss?” or “Would you like to change into your pajamas before or after we take off?”
The choice of food was excellent… no microwave dinners for me! On the way back, we trialled a new degustation menu and I’m not sure if it was the altitude or the several glasses of matching wines, but I thought it was ffffaaaann-tassstic!!
And the best part – a flat bed. When ever you want it made up, the come a long and set it up, doona and all. While they did this, I took the opportunity to put on my pyjamas. I kept the pants and still sleep in them. So comfy! The little complimentary toiletries were better than most hotels I’ve stayed at. This experience really spoilt me.
I lied. The best part is accessing fast-track lines. No queuing at immigration or customs, priority boarding and disembarking. Plus your bags are waiting for when you get to the luggage carousel. All that was missing was a nice a chauffer waiting for me with my name on a sign. Is that worth $12,000??? Perhaps not, but the incentive to upgrade to Business Class is certainly there.
While I can’t see myself getting such a fantastic opportunity again anytime soon, I really hope to enjoy it again one day. I can only imagine what it would be like to fly first class on the A380 or the Dreamliner.
What’s on your bucket list?
